Triciribine/API-2  is a synthetic tricyclic nucleoside, triciribine/API-2 acts as a specific inhibitor of the Akt signaling pathway. Triciribine/API-2 selectively inhibits the phosphorylation and activation of Akt1, -2 and -3 but does not inhibit Akt kinase activity nor known upstream Akt activators such as PI 3-Kinase and PDK1. Triciribine/API-2 inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis preferentially in cells that express aberrant Akt.This agent is shown> 80% inhibition in tumor growth in mice at 1 mg/kg/day, i.p.Shown to preferentially induce apoptosis and growth arrest in cancer cells with aberrant Akt activity in vitro (> 60% in cell proliferation at 20 µM).
